North Island Golf Club first opened for play in 1959. The course was designed by Jack L Daray, Jr. and Stephen Halsey
The Sea n' Air Golf Course on the North Island Naval Air Station in Coronado is the ONLY golf course in San Diego besides Torrey Pines Golf Course that sits right on the Pacific Ocean. In fact, it distinguishes itself from Torrey Pines Golf Course in that it not only has fabulous Pacific Ocean views like Torrey Pines, but unlike Torrey Pines, a few of the holes actually play "at sea level" right along the beach and Pacific Ocean. Just like Pebble Beach meets ocean, no other San Diego golf course can lay claim to such fame. The greens are fast and undulating, and most of the course is situated on hilly terrain. The wind becomes a major factor in the afternoons, making club selection extremely important. This course is only open to military personnel and their guests. Civilians can play as accompanied guests of active duty and retired military.
Blue tees: Par-72, 6,275 yards, 70.3 /117
White tees: Par-72, 6,066 yards, 69.2 / 113
Red tees(W): Par-72, 5,462 yards, 72.9 / 127

Course conditions excellent. Greens soft and playable. The aircraft overhead add to the ambiance of the course. It's the sound of freedom to an old retired Marine. Water hazards are well placed and challenging. Some of the bunkers could use a bit of work.

Great course, but am slightly prejudiced as it's close enough for me to walk there. It can be slow on week ends, but it is a Navy course and it is for military personnel.

What is the name of the moron admiral in charge of this fiasco!!!!!!! People need to know who she is so they can put pressure on her to change what goes on here. ESTABLISH A HANDICAP REQUIREMENT !!!!!!!!! 6 hour rounds of golf ARE NOT FUN. I'll bet the admiral and even her friends make sure they play early so they don't have to deal, that's takin care of the troops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The short overweight older filippino lady in the snack bar by the 12th green was extremely rude! She should be fired! I was told she has had many complaints but the management cannot find anyone else to replace her so she hasn't been fired...yet. I will not play here again because of her, and neither will my friends!!! The lady's inside the restaurant do not listen when an order is placed you have to repeat yourself two or three times, very aggravating!!!! Pro shop staff are great!! The shop is well stocked. 80% of all golfers here can't break 100 so be ready for five to six hour rounds on the weekends. Greens are constantly being punched and sanded, make sure you ask before you play, the hackers there can't even tell the difference!!!

The course is genereally in very good condition year round. The layout on the front nine is not what one would expect. First hole is a par 5 and the second tee box is in the landing area for stray second shots from people who slice the ball. I've heard more people yell "Fore" on that hole than any other golf course I've ever played

Crse is not long...greens are in good shape...beautiful views on the back nine...if you like planes there are a lot of flying over the crse.

This course is rated "very good" in my book because of the layout, practice facilities (driving range chipping area and putting green), condition of the course and the pro shop staff. These guys know how to make you feel welcome. On Sundays, especialy later in the morining the pace slows a little. The recent course remodel has left the 5 new greens a little hard to read and testy to putt. The course is improving by the week and is generally an excellent experience. The one area that could be improved is the resturant - it closes at 2 pm - leaving golfers with little choice for food after golf.

The new layout for the front nine makes this course a much better test and more enjoyable. Some difference occur between the new greens and the old greens and that makes getting the speed of your putts a bit challenging.

They have made some changes in the 19th hole that I don't like. My lunch was great, but I really miss the nice little lunch buffet that they had in the past. Nice friendly staff.
